My writerbrain needs a jumpstart. So I'm doing that thing I sometimes do where I open myself for ficlet prompts and do my darndest to actually fill them all. Comment with a request and I'll comment back with fic.

First five prompts will get filled. I'll edit this post if I'm taking more beyond that. For a request, please give me a character/pairing and a prompt of some sort. Crossovers welcome.

Fandoms I'm Interested in Writing
Primarily...
Sekirei - new fandom squee! I need to make a pimping post for this, 'cause this is a fun series (anime and manga) that most people don't seem to know about. Probably because it's a harem anime. But it's a good harem anime.
Xenosaga
Secondarily...
Doctor Who - Eleventh Doctor era, specifically.
Final Fantasy XIII
Kingdom Hearts
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon
Revolutionary Girl Utena
Star Trek - TNG or Voyager. Don't know enough DS9 canon, not interested in writing for original series or reboot.

...yeah, I know, a lot of you know nothing about any of these. If you're really interested in something else, ask me.
letterblade: (bunny)
Give me a pairing(/threesome/moresome) and I'll tell you my favorite get-together plot. (crack and crossover pairings encouraged. XD)

(Multiple requests okay. And, well, any fandom I know? Since I don't actually have to write fic.)

(Now I kind of feel like making my list of Fandoms That I Know Well Enough To Think About Fic Scenarios In. But that would be long, and I'm lazy.)

(Currently, have Kingdom Hearts and Whoverse on the brain. Though haven't caught up with 11 yet.)
letterblade: (larp)
Yup, I still exist. :) Have spent most of the month being flattened by the show (which went awesomely!) and the RMV (which sucked; long story.)

So remember this game?

It is a balmy summer evening, full of magic and mystery, and the gates to the Palace of Storms have been thrown open. The lord of this towering castle, perched high amongst howling winds and rocky hills, looming over the fertile southern fields of the Kingdom of Alshen, has decreed a ball to be held upon this night. Here shall gather kings and queens, princes and princesses. Here shall lurk secrets and disguises, love and sorcery. And here they shall revel, waited upon by invisible servants, until the stroke of midnight. And upon the stroke of midnight, who knows what strange wishes shall come true?

A Crown of Hearts is a fairy-tale evening for sixteen players, full of passion, drama, adventure, and metamorphosis. This game deals with some disturbing themes and dark subject matter, and is recommended for mature players.

I am still working on it, and I AM GOING TO PREMIERE IT SOMETIME THIS FALL GODDAMMIT. And sometime in October or November, because December is impossible to schedule, and I need to get this finished so [livejournal.com profile] mllelaurel and I can start focusing on Stars Over Atlantis, our new game for Intercon.

But scheduling LARPs this fall is actually a bit of a maze, given that there are various other LARPs going on that I do not want to conflict with. LARP overload! Thus, a date poll:

[Poll #1625010]

Some further notes on dates:
- A night game is something like 5-9 pm. Afternoon is something like 2-6 pm. I want to give you time to go home and crash, if it's Sunday. Or go out and party, if it's Halloween weekend.
- Yeah, Halloween weekend. Probably not the most open weekend to schedule in with this crowd, but I figured I'd put it on there. 'Cause running a game on Halloween would be kind of cool.
- The first weekend on the list? In all honesty, you'll probably be getting character sheets two days before the game. To brag, half the players in The Sound of Drums got their sheets two days before the game (or four, if they were lucky), and then enjoyed themselves tremendously in game. Last-minute sheets from me are generally not shite. They are, however, long and, well, last-minute.
- Gamespace will be at Brandeis, since it's the school year and I can actually get space there. :)
- Splee, game!
letterblade: (writer)
So I am doing Blogathon this year. Comma goddamnit.

As with some previous years, Blogathon is not officially running. However, I will be joining [livejournal.com profile] shadesong and her wonderful co-bloggers, pit crew, and cats for the yearly Blogathon Madness.

And now the question is what I'm doing.

For those who don't know: Blogathon is a nerdy, butt-in-chair take on your usual walk/bike/whatever charity 'thon. Starting at 9 am EST on July 31st, I will stay up for twenty-four hours straight and post once every half hour. In 'thon tradition, readers may pledge to a charity of my choice to support me in my mad effort.

Since this is not a year where Blogathon is officially organized, the pledge system will be very home-grown. I will soon be making a designated pledge post in this journal; comment with the amount (either lump sum or per hour I manage to stay up--though I will say that I've done Blogathon twice before and am unlikely to crash) you're pledging, and after the 'thon is over, make your donation. If you do not make your donation, I shall harass you!

This year, I will be returning to my old standby: Heifer Project International. HPI is an international hunger and poverty relief organization that has their own take on the "teach a man to fish" principle: rather than simply providing food to families in need, they provide livestock. I've been involved with HPI in one way or another since I was a child, and I'd be happy to blog for their benefit again.

But the real question, for me, is not the charity: it's what I'm going to write. Because I don't just blog randomly for twenty-four hours. I take on a major writing project, write it during Blogathon, and post it raw and steaming for your benefit. The first year, over the course of Blogathon, I wrote the first draft of Thirty-Five Owls, the Dumbledore/Grindelwald correspondence fic which would become my most recced and reviewed fic ever. The second year I wrote various scenes from a large genderswap Avengers AU project, which remains unfinished because, er, Iamaflake. -.-

At any rate. I need a writing project. Something that can keep me busy for the whole twenty-four hours, and hopefully something that won't bore the shit out of y'all. Something that I'm really intensely invested in right now, because otherwise I won't still be working on it at 5 AM the next morning.

I have two things on my mind.

First: I just signed up for [community profile] kink_bingo, and have a card that I like and am thinking of going for a blackout on. What will this mean for you? A slew of short fics, of various sorts, in various fandoms (Xenosaga, some Kingdom Hearts, a little Utena, whatever else comes out), all kinky pr0n. I probably won't finish the blackout entirely during Blogathon itself; that's twenty-five fics, after all! But I'd go through as much of it as I could, which would probably be a fair chunk. (I can write about 10,000 words of material in a Blogathon. Things I know about myself.) There'd be no chance of leaving a WIP hanging after Blogathon like last time. But it would break my streak of writing long-form gen or close-to-gen for Blogathon.

Second: In the long-form gen category, yes. Something I'd be super-passionate about, yes. Something that would be a hanging WIP after Blogathon is over, yes, because the scope of this project is big. Something anybody else is actually interested in? Well, not quite sure about that. Because I have this urge to write a novelization of Xenosaga. Yeah, all of it, incorporating supplemental material that never quite made it into the games, etcetera. I am potentially insane. This would be a long-term project; I'd get maybe halfway through the first game's worth of material, if I do well, during Blogathon, and then hopefully be continuing it. But it's not a can of worms I'd even want to open unless there was interest. Because, seriously, the main reason I'm thinking of doing this? Is because I am currently seriously in love with a fucking obscure fandom and wish to share this love with the fanworld. This is an amazing canon full of fabulous characters and boggling fic potential...and nobody seems to know it. And rather than saying "dude, it's epic, trust me, wade through three long CRPGs, some hard to obtain, and obscure fan-translated background material" or "hey, trust me, watch these 293847287367 cutscenes on Youtube," I'd love to be able to have all this canon information collated in a friendlier format.

In case you're wondering: a quick description of Xenosaga: the travails of an adventurous female scientist, Shion Uzuki, who travels with her battle android (girlfriend) and a motly party of friends. The genre could best be summed up as high-drama high-angst space opera (think Bujold) thrown in a blender with Christian mythos, Karl Jung, the Kabbalah, and sufficient interesting and accurate psych and spec-psych to make my psych major girlfriend squee endlessly.

I can't even say "watch the anime" because it sucks. Yes, there's a Xenosaga anime. It's a somewhat changed version of the first game's story. The changes aren't that big a deal; the fact that it sucks is.

Anywho. Anime rant some other time. This is supposed to be the what-the-shit-do-I-do-for-Blogathon post. And since you guys are hypothetically going to be giving me money for this...

A Crown of Hearts is a fairy-tale evening for sixteen players, full of passion, drama, adventure, and metamorphosis. This game deals with some disturbing themes and dark subject matter, and is recommended for mature players.

This is the game that I'm writing right now, and hope to premiere at some point this summer, because there aren't nearly enough games running in the season. A few other notes about various questions and concerns...

- If all goes well, I'll be finishing this game in May. Especially if it is running later in the summer, I should definitely be able to get you complete sheets well before the game. The only way I could see week-of-game-character-sheet-fail happening is if it runs particularly early in the summer (late June) and if something holds me up noticeably with the writing (I wind up moving sooner than expected, I get sick, that sort of thing.)

- Whether it runs on a Saturday or a Sunday, I'll probably be going for a late afternoon to early evening runtime. (So something like 3-7 pm or 4-8 pm.) This is supposedly a standard 4-hour game; of course, it might run a little shorter or longer, depending. Predicting runtime is not one of my GM strengths. There will probably be some sort of dead dog afterwards, for those interested.

- I'd like to be able to run this at Brandeis, but getting space in the summer can be a bit tricky. That's part of why I'd like to get some potential run dates ASAP, so I can space-hunt. If not Brandeis, then somewhere Boston area and, I hope, at least somewhat T-accessible.

- Speaking of which, unless this game is a complete and utter disaster, I *will* be re-running it, most likely within a year.

Given that...

[Poll #1563077]
letterblade: (snark)
...i.e. a few things that have been distracting me from the internets.

- Woke up one morning to a terse email from my mother saying that my very old grandmother was in the ICU. She's getting better last I heard, and I am hoping a lot. I should send her something. I...agh. I "cope" with this sort of thing by shutting it out of my brain completely and not dealing with it. Doesn't so much work. Flail.

- Had one of those few days of fail where I ran out of meds and consistently forgot/wasn't able to get to my pharmacy during actual pharmacy hours to renew them. Yup, I suck. Spent most of yesterday v. out of it and feeling like my head was a prickly balloon. SSRI withdrawal leads to some peculiar sensations. Resolving to go get them as soon as I am done with breakfast, yarr.

- Also dehydrated and cranky due to the water boiling foo here in the Boston area. No longer have to boil all ice cubes before using, yay! Should probably go inhale a gallon of water.

- Had epic communication FAIL with somebody I like. Left me feeling rather crappy.

- Weather knocked me for a loop. I do NOT cope well with heat. If it's over seventy in my room, I can barely even sleep, never mind anything else. Getting my AC unit in was epically annoying, due to the mess in front of that window, but better than the alternative. And because of the mix of WTFHOT and rainstorms, I've been behind on my Etsy photography (I do that outside), which is Not Good, because now I'm behind on my listing stuff every day resolution. Meh.

Despite all this, I sat down and poured out at least half a character sheet for the LARP I'm currently writing. So I'm not entirely useless. I <3 that character. I <3 all of these characters, really, and hope the rest will be as easy for the same reason. Wheee!

Speaking of this game-in-a-month challenge, actually...

So y'know (if you've been reading here for a while) how I go through these phases of taking crazy-ass ficlet requests in hopes to jump-start my writerbrain and produce something entertaining? And how a lot of the time I never finish all of them because I suck, but I keep asking for more because I'm a needy bitch?

Yeah. It's that time again, if y'all are game.

The first TEN people to comment in this post get to request that I write a drabble OR doodle of any pairing/gen friendship. In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their ability level.* (Feel free to modify exactly what's being requested according to your skills.)

(So apparently I need to add to this that if your prompt eats my brain and turns into a full-blown fic, I'll be writing a fucking fic for you in comments. I FAIL AT DRABBLE.)

Seen about the place, gacked from [livejournal.com profile] bleemoo. PARDON ME WHILE I HAVE AN ATTENTION WHORE MOMENT.

There is -- probably -- at least one person on your friends list that wants to f*ck the hell out of you.

Soooo . . . let's play the game everyone loves, F*ck or Pass!

The rules, they are simple.

If you want to f*ck the person who posts this, send him or her a reply saying "I'd f*ck you." (Or however you'd want to say it... please, feel free to embellish! Creativity may be rewarded!)

(This is, of course, a totally imaginary game that does not take into account current relationships.)

Then, marvel at the replies! Comments are screened. (At least now they are. Fuck, I'm sorry. THIS IS WHAT I GET FOR DOING THIS IN THE MORNING WHEN I'M HALF-AWAKE.)

In exchange, you have to are encouraged to post this in your journal.

So [livejournal.com profile] carmarthen is starting a meme, and I wanna play too!

Look at my fanfiction. Pick a story or two. I will retitle and summarize them in lolcat. Because I can.
letterblade: (writer)
I am in fact doing the time-stamp meme.

And I'm also doing that thing I do every once in a while where I take a round of ficlet requests:

Give me a character or pairing and a word, and I'll write you a line paragraph random larger amount of fic in the comment window.

Fandoms for that: Iron Man movieverse, naturally. (Attempting to familiarize myself with comics canon, but, dude, it's Marvel, the character's been around for ages, the continuity looks like the CAT5e cables on a wall of switches.) Doctor Who (new) and Torchwood. Utena. Evangelion.
letterblade: (writer)
Both gacked from [livejournal.com profile] fandom_me.

The timestamp meme:

Give me one of my own stories, and a timestamp sometime in the future after the end of the story, or sometime in the past before the story started, and I'll write you at least a hundred words of what happened then, whether it's five minutes before the story started or ten years in the future.

These will be quick, perhaps dirty, and probably mostly done on Monday. I will try to do all.

The flash preview meme:

If you happen to be working on some creative writing project, fanfiction or NaNoWriMo or what have you, post exactly one sentence from each of your current work(s) in progress in your journal. It should probably be your favourite or most intriguing sentence so far, but what you choose is entirely your discretion. Mention the title (and genre) if you like, but don't mention anything else -- this is merely to whet the general appetite for your forthcoming work(s).

(Or at least a few of them. One from something most of you know about; the rest from stuff I haven't mentioned much.)

The Art and Craft of Shutting (the fuck) Up (Iron Man/Torchwood, Jack/Tony)

"Hey, spotlight," Jack murmurs, tapping Tony's chest. "Get down here."

Four Years (Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, Mamoru/Zoisite)

He touches me like he touches the keys and the dark sides of the piano before he plays, coaxing art from my skin.

Helixes (Doctor Who, gen)

The Doctor, thirteenth and last, is wiry, comparatively solemn, morbid sense of humor, bottle-green eyes that could scorch from yards away, ginger.

The Emigrants (Revolutionary Girl Utena, Akio/Touga/Miki)

"That must make life easier, to be American," Miki said blandly. "If you're American, everybody expects you to be an asshole."

That last might have been left from the last time I did the timestamp meme, from a bunny that ran away with me. I don't rightly know. But I seem to recall that I was writing it for somebody.

Poll time.

(For to get pelted with crack when I'm going about homeless?)

The thing is, when people look for stories, they always make it sound like badfic. Now, often that's because it really is badfic, but sometimes it's good and they just suck at describing the story.

So, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to summarize badly any one (or more!) of my stories, as if you were posting asking for a link you lost to a fic, and I'll try to guess which it is. You could even pretend you don't remember the pairing or fandom to make it harder to guess.

My fic can be found here (most fandoms), here (Myst fandom), and here (WIPs and things I haven't gotten around to archiving yet).

SO: I have decided that at some point, in yet another contribution to the Slew Of Random Small Themed Gatherings that seem to be going about my social amoeba, I want to have a Shakespeare-reading party. As in, pick a play, distribute parts however is convenient or desired, read away, and let wacky (or gorey) fun ensue. Because Shakespeare is fun, and so should be done in groups. *glassy-eyed grin*

And, as usual when I get an idea for a gathering, polls ensue. Brace yourselves!

[Poll #1126378]

Now, I do of course realize that one could get into endless, endless discussion of WHICH play to do. To this end, because I'm manic, I've decided to make not one but two more polls, one for those who might wish to indicate strong preferences for particular plays, and one for those who wish to indicate strong preferences against the same.

(As a note, if the poll does not yield hugely decisive info, we will probably default to The Winter's Tale, as both me and the girlfriend have Official Favorite Parts (Paulina and Autolycus, respectively), although if that is deprecated, the other backup will probably be Teh Scottish Play, just because it rocks.)

I have attempted to provide some basic relevant info for each play, including length (mini is under 2k lines, short is 2k to 2.5k, middling is 2.5k to 3k, long is 3k to 3.5k, extra-long is 3.5k to 4k, and fucking-huge is 4k, aka Hamlet) and number of sizable parts (done by the rather arbitrary cutoff of longer than a hundred lines, as it's impossible to judge importance and interest of characters in those plays which I have not read; and, no, that is not an MP cost.)

(Also, I know there are some disputed plays on this list. Please no Shakespeare canon wank in my LJ! I was in a completist mood, was working out of a book that listed disputed plays or those considered to have multiple authors, and figured I'd list them so as to not offend some huge secret fan of Edward III or somesuch.)

So I've been idly commenting to friends for a while that I really should do a Best Of Voyager showing one of these days. (Context, for those who don't know: Voyager was my pet Trek through childhood and adolesence, and I'm still quite fond of it, in a loving bits of it and wanting to fix its flaws sort of way.)

This is not a scheduling poll, as I'm not insane enough to try to schedule anything until after Arisia and the rest of the January geek-fest has settled down, but a what sort of event poll, and also something of a survey of interest.

The sex games, part, well...ganked from [livejournal.com profile] youkofujima, LJ truth or dare. Wee! I usually suck at challenging people for these, but I will try not to...

1. Reply with a comment and I'll tell you which one I want, either truth or a dare.
