[livejournal.com profile] yunatwilight and I wind up discussing Myst during our morning routine somehow, whereupon she said...

"I wonder if the D'ni have bat-watching as a popular holiday. Y'know, all the different species..."

So THAT would explain what all the women are busy with while their husbands go off and be a Guildy and important!

The interests I have that nobody else does:

Achenar, Christian Coulson's hands, high-end 3D programs, Katraan, mouse trails, portable storage, sophisticated fannishness, Stoneship, Swedish bagpipes, things Jason Isaacs said, yoik.

Let me see: three Myst-related (hmm, maybe I should list Tamra, too), three geek-related, two Scandinavian-folk-music-related, two-Harry-Potter-actor-related, one general. I feel simultaneously lonely and unique. Go me!

Ah. [livejournal.com profile] myst_library spelled Achenar's name wrong. No wonder we don't match. o.O

Myst Island! Mwahahahaha!

Phweee!

RL update: Home at last. Well, been home since Thursday evening, but spent most of the time since sleeping or wandering about in a daze. Still got sleep to catch up on, but feeling considerably better. Will see people later today, as there is a solstice party. I suppose I can change my icon now, as I no longer resemble it. Off to the South Park character generator. And soonish I'll be posting a few things from my classes--an odd little short story, two 3D animations (have I mentioned recently that Maya is god?), and, within a week or so, an extensive analysis of the creation of internal symbols in two episodes of Utena in light of Eco's theories of codes and sign production, Barthes' hermeneutic and symbolic systems, and my own theory as to the nature of strong association between elements due to connections in the chain of connotations. Semiotics is fun. *nods vigorously*

Fandom update: Working madly on the Lucius/Molly piece, as the deadline is today. It's currently about half-done; as my ex-roommate and smut-checker is hosting the party, I'll bring a copy, let her go over it, possibly show other people as well according to interest, and then email it to restrictedsection from her email. Would've loved to post a first draft here, but there is no time.
After that's out of the way, I can get back to work on other pieces. Next installment of Within These Pages, pulling together the first few chapters of the Tom/Alastor piece, going through my beta's notes on a Petunia short and a 10-year-old!Tom short, possibly more of the Lucius/Gilderoy figments (now entitled Press and Release), possibly some other shorts (Amos Diggory, Tom/Hermione, Professor Coulter and the left-handed Arts of Luuuuuurve, Slut!Harry meets Dom!Snape, Hermione and Lupin geeking about Finnish poetry, Psycho!Mrs. Lestrange, Harry sticking his finger up Ron's arse and playing him like an accordion, Seamus Finnigan and Hannah Abbott screwing like the cute little crazed weasels they are...the possibilities are endless!), possibly a longish time-travelly AU-y Riddlebunny that bit me recently (Tom/Harry with Harry as the aggressor for once, with a sideline of Tom/Bill Weasley)...*falls over*
Anyway, I'm going to be writing. *evilgrin*
Oh, and, [livejournal.com profile] cedar85, I've been reading Like the Finest Gold and loving it, and I'll be reading (and reviewing, if I can get over my review hangup) your other fics as well now that I have time and a copy of Berlioz handy. And that anticipatory sketch was bloody hot. *schnoogles*

Other fandom update: For the single Mystficcer who possibly reads this: I've already promised an LJ code to an RL friend of mine, but I'll try to get you one. Also, now that I'm out of school, I should have time to whip some site projects into shape (archive! Narayani Collective!), and, once I get a massive pile of notes back from my Editor From Heck friend, I'll go through the DMVs and they'll be Postable and Done and I will be Happy, because currently they have some Problems and I am being a Perfectionist about them because I Lurve them. I've not permanently abandoned the fandom, just been very quiet for a while. :-)

Off to write about tipsy eighteen-year-olds and the barefoot rebellion.

well, one of them, at any rate. finally found Aitrus5 on AIM (that fellow has more screen names than i have hair, i swear...) and had a nice long talk about the DMVs and stuff. yay!
and then when i was winnowing today i had some good ideas....

(Turn of the Tides is one of their worst albums, in my opinion, but it's got some mildly tolerable moments, like Firetongues, which i was reminded of by a random image posting at MC)
letterblade: (Default)
i've been wanting to talk to my "fans," especially Aitrus5 and sepdet, concerning the later DMVs, as i've recieved no responses from them yet and i'm anxious as to how they work in the context of the series. but they've barely been on MC recently, and they're not on their respective chat services, and i'm really unsure as to whether the fourth, sixth, and seventh are working. want my people!

tybalt's last comment makes me think of SETI.
i need nail clippers.
Radiohead reminds me of Pink Floyd.
anasazi, underground, petroglyphs, d'ni, airstream, carlsbad, lecheguilla, coordinates, garden, shamans, faces of stone, zandi!
there are times when it is very interesting to be a myst fan. this is one of them.
i should bone up on southwest indian mythology, but my books are at bennington. *grumble*

they're DDDOOOOOONNNNNNEEEEE!!!!!!
the stories are DDDOOOOOONNNNNNEEEEE!!!!!! seventy pages DDDOOOOOONNNNNNEEEEE!!!!!! and they shouldn't need too much revision, and then i'll html-ize them and put them up with the spiffy index i made and they'll really be DDDOOOOOONNNNNNEEEEE!!!!!!

and i'm off to mysterium at six in the morning tomorrow. don't actually get there 'tl four. but i have the stories! DDDOOOOOONNNNNNEEEEE!!!!!!
and my keyboard is being really wonky.

of course, you won't understand this unless you're one of my fan club from MC, and i don't think any of them read my LJ. but i wanted to do it.
this is how much work i've done on each of seven interconnected short stories within the past three days.

#1(3 pages): minor reworking of most of it.
#2 (17 pages): word-by-word revision.
#3 (18 pages): some major structural changes, shuffling and cutting of scenes, then a pass of word-by-word revision.
#4 (9 pages): progressed from less than two pages worth of fragments to a state of completed draft within the past 24 hours.
#5 (currently 6 pages): added several scenes and came to further understanding of what the hell is going on (this is perhaps the most surreal one).
#6 (currently 6 pages): progressed from one page worth of fragments to current state, and i mostly know the structure of this one by now.
#7 (currently 3 pages): almost complete, so i haven't worried about it yet.

i want the set completed, if not at least vaguely polished, by mysterium, which starts this friday.
