I have gone to the Ikeaville and returned triumphant!

A lantern and some candles, an adorable little round table, shiny red cushions, a compost bucket, file boxes, a glowy-sphere table lamp, a screwdriver multitool, AND a new mattress and bed!

(I need to get a decent digital camera so I can do proper pic posts, not this webcam crap! Anywho.)

BED. Full size, a bit big for my room but nice and sprawly. Super-comfy mattress--I mean, I lay down on this thing and there was audible crack of relief from my shoulders. And big metal bars for headboard and footboard.

And, yes, I tested it for stability.

I has a bondage bed! Squeeeeeeee!

I will now proceed to get into it and not come out for a while. Because I got this thing home and assembled it mostly by myself, after walking alll over the Ikeaville, and I am a tired and sore beast.

The problem with this is that if this bed is anything like the one I had at my parent's house (and come to think of it, I wonder if I can talk them into bringing it over next time they visit)...metal squeaks like a mofo.

This does not squeak! At least not yet; I might be able to just tighten the screws back into place if it does. But I tested for stability. :D

That is a very nice-looking bed. Ikea is brilliant, isn't it? (Well, it'll be much more brilliant when you can actually order everything online instead of having to traipse round the whole bloody store, but their stuff is brilliant!)

<3 the Ikea. Traipsing around the whole store is kinda part of the fun, but I admit I would like it less if the store was further away!

I am in a bed search so I must know where you got it and how much it cost. I like it very much which is why I ask.

Bed: Ikea, model is Tingvoll. It only comes in full and queen, and would be difficult to transport without a large car or a roof rack. (They do home delivery for an extra hundred bucks.)

Cost is:
full: $149, plus $30 if you don't have a box spring.
queen: $179, if memory serves, plus $40 if you don't have a box spring.

That is, of course, frame only. I assume you have extant mattress?

It takes two people to assemble, though the one is only needed for part of the time to stabilize the sides, and the individual parts weigh no more than twenty or thirty pounds, so they are easy to carry.

The headboard is at juuuust the right height for somebody short to be tied to it quite nicely, standing with arms spread or so forth. Taller people might be trickier. And, of course, many other possibilities with the bars and so forth.

This is all good to know. If the the delivery cost is $100 I might try to convince someone with access to a car to do the Ikea trip with me. Although I will also be buying a mattress at the same time. I will be getting a full. I am rather worried about sturdiness.

How short? The person I would be restraining regularly is 5' 9".

I am conspiring to get a new bed in January. So this is all months in advance sort of planning. Because that seems to be how I plan things when large sums of money are involved.

I remember seeing that frame last trip to IKEA. It's similar to the daybed we've contemplated picking up to replace the mamasan in the living room.

Okay, I want that, and I'm going to Ikea to get it as sooooon as I have a free day (December?). Can you give me an idea (by private message if you feel more comfortable that way) how much it cost?

I really want, nay, NEED a new bed. I lost my full bed when I got back from France the first time, and I really hate the little crappy one a friend gave me in return for it. Long story. My back has hated me every day for the past three years.
