Comment on this post. I will choose seven userpics from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are using them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so others can play along. Also, if there are any icons of mine that you want an explanation for, you can comment and ask, though this will also result in you getting seven icons chosen for you to explain.

This is a tiny section of this, which is one of the Japanese DVD covers for Revoutionary Girl Utena, one of my very very favorite anime. The pale fellow with pink hair is Mikage, perhaps my favorite character from that universe; the dark boy who's seduced him and got him wrapped round his little finger (because, yes, that's how that power dynamic runs) is Mamiya. They are fasincating and pervertedly sexy people from a fascinating and pervertedly sexy world. I was just grabbing small icons from various pictures of them and really liked the mood of this one once it was darkened enough. I tried for text--possession--but it worked better textless.

The keyword on this icon is 'kurobara,' Japanese for 'black rose,' one of their primary symbols. Like almost all of my fandom icons, regardless of mood, I use it mainly for relevant fandom stuff.

Mikage is also the one who runs the elevator that psychoanalyzes people. This will come into play later.

Aha, my icon for being drunk. Not that I really do it that often, and so I sometimes use this icon for altered states that do not ivolve alcohol, like sleep dep or writing or magic high. From this comic, which was so classic as to demand iconing. (I should make some XKCD icons someday for the same reason...)

I'm not even actually that entertaining when I'm drunk. I just kindof blather and get dizzy.

Keyword is 'drunkl,' one of my favorite typos ever, committed by [livejournal.com profile] telepwen while drunk on AIM one night.

I usually post my fanfiction to the internetz in two stages. First I post a draft just to my livejournal, one fic at a time, usually about five minutes after I finish it. (This is because, well, I'm an attention whore when it comes to writing and love the thrill of "look at THIS fresh off the griddle!" (My brain can be a griddle if it wants to!) On the other hand, my drafts aren't terribly rough, IMHO, and I do at least avoid snorting pixie sticks or writing Mary Sues, which should somewhat distinguish this behavior from that of the average denizen of the Pit of Voles.) Then, usually after a few weeks, I get around to revising it--checking the spelling, tweaking a few sentences, as I'm usually light on revision, especially on short pieces of fanfiction--and posting it on Skyehawke, any other archives I use for that fandom, any relevant LJ communities, etcetera. And I usually revise and post a couple of fics at once, whatever my recent output has been; and I usually make a post in my own LJ linking to the final fics, which I call an upload post.

This is the icon for upload posts, keyworded as 'upload.' im in ur internetz, uplodin mah pr0n. I of course had to make it with the cutest, most innocent-looking little kitten-on-a-laptop I could find. pr0nkitten!

Ehehehehehe, this one's complicated.

The woman in the icon is Gwen Cooper, from Torchwood, the recent Dr. Who spinoff, who exemplifies everything that is bad and uneven and needs to be fixed about that show. (And I like fixing things.) She is widely loathed by the fandom and most everybody I know, and while I didn't entirely hate her my first time through the show, I disliked and ignored her. Uneven characterization, sometimes Mary Sue, sometimes v. fucked up; has annoying love affairs, does stupid things and gets away with them; etc. But then, when I started realizing just how fucked up she was, I began to find her utterly fascinating. I've already written some fic about this (despite being in my journal, this is a final draft, btw), and it's one of the main threads in the Torchwood/Utena crossover I'm planning.

Which brings us back to Utena. Remember Mikage, the one with his hand down the little boy's shirt? Remember I mentioned that he has an elevator? It is a very interesting elevator; and it is difficult to explain the full methods of its working, as, like many things in Utena, it functions simultaneously in the physical world, the psychological world, and the symbolic world. People get it in and they start talking. Digging deep into their shadows. And as they talk, the elevator descends, the symbols on the wall regress into more and more primal states...and almost always they hesitate, stop for a moment as if terrified to keep going. And Mikage says, over the loudspeaker, go deeper. And the elevator starts again.

One of the first ideas that drove my Torchwood/Utena crossover plotting was the irresistable urge to grab Gwen by the scruff of her neck and throw her down Mikage's elevator. It would be fascinating!

Hence the icon. Keyworded 'fiveleaves,' as the title of the fic is Five Leaves in Autumn, as there are five members of the Torchwood staff, and when the elevator hits the bottom floor, the symbol on the wall is a leaf.

Yet more angsty fic references!

The image is of Bartek Borowiec, a Polish (I believe) model proposed by various folks as a fine match for Albus Dumbledore, circa 18. Terribly pretty, often arrogant and aloof, long natural auburn hair? Check. At first I was just playing around with the photo, making it look old and worn; then the Hallows sign went on, and I was quite proud of the effect of the lines extending beyond the actual triangle, the geometric sketch look. And then...

See, I made this icon almost immediately after the madness that was Blogathon, in which I wrote almost ten thousand words of fic in twenty-four hours, the fic being the correspondance between Dumbledore and Grindelwald from 1951 to 1997, from a few years after the duel to Dumbledore's death. The nigh illegible text is straight out of that fic, Gellert's pained and exasperated musing of "Albus Dumbledore, do you even know what you do to people?"

...it's kind of embarassing how often I reference my own fic in my icons.

Icon is keyworded 'dumbledore,' carried over from an earlier, much sillier icon.

Whee! That one was fun. The two extremely pretty gentlemen there are Kunzite, to the left, and Zoisite, to the right, from the live-action version of Sailor Moon. (Yes, there was a live-action--and it's SO much better than the anime it's not even funny.) The power-plays between those two, while not actually textually kinky smut, sure as hell read like it. Kunzite trying to establish power, Zoisite never actually letting him because he only bottoms to one man is loyal to somebody Kunzite's trying to kill...there was that one time Kunzite bent Zoisite over the piano keyboard with his sword...

Ahem. They're interesting. Hence this icon, keyworded 'kink.' Hell of a job to make, too, as the screencap was low-quality and I wound up painting most of the background gray to make room for the words.

Falling into the Fun With Photoshop category. This is the fascinating (and imposingly hot) Auron, from Final Fantasy X, with Zanarkand in the background; those familiar with the game might understand why I heavy modified the screencap to set Auron, solid and dark, on a different level of reality from Zanarkand, blurred and pale and broken up. From a simple technical standpoint, this is one of my favorite icons, and a fine example of why I am fucking in love with the PNG format. (The icon I used on this post is another example of the latter.)

The icon is simply keyworded 'ffx,' as it's my only icon for that fandom, and I've used it for a hell of a lot of FFX-related posts.

Hope that satisfied your curiosity, dear! :D

I heart Gwen. I just wish they'd make some connection to Gwenneth in the Eccleston series. :-/

I don't think I even have seven userpics here anymore (the pitfall of refusing to give LJ more money). But I'm game anyway.

...I'd request, but it seems like all six of my icons are fairly straightforward...

Me!

When you get 'round to it, of course.

Also, this made me giggle:

Remember I mentioned that he has an elevator? It is a very interesting elevator

Yes, that's one way of putting it!

*hugs*

You know, I hated Owen much more than I hated Gwen. Though Gwen did earn a lot of the hate by the end, especially when she freaking drugged Reese just to tell him the truth, it was Owen that earned my ire. I wanted him to catch plague. I did.

Other than that, the first one you explained... the one with the hand down the shirt? Do you know how long I was completely convinced that it was a zoom in of some girl masturbating?
