In which Tory's eyes are bigger than her muse...?

Trying to decide whether to join this comm. If I do, it will be claiming either Jack Harkness (though I feel terribly selfish doing so) or the PGSM Shitennou (which I wouldn't feel too selfish doing), or both (if I'm mad). The aim would be to post one prompt a week, probably Sunday night. (Write faster, if I can, but posting one a week. Sunday night chosen so that you guys get Monday morning smut to kick off the work week and I get Monday morning comments to survive the work week.) Or, if I claim both and don't alternate, Jack gets Sunday nights and the boys get a random weeknight as schedule permits. In other words, random weekly (or twice-weekly) smut! Not sure yet whether I'd try to go in order.

Pros:
- Prompty porny fun!
- An excuse to generate lots of random fic with room to experiment.
- More fic = more for those who read.
- Continuing to see development in the sex writing aspect of my work, so practice will theoretically be good.
- Also, I think some of those prompts may push me out of my usual smut styles.
- PORN, WHEE.

Cons:
- 50. That's a lot. I already have a lot on my plate.
- What if I lose steam or fall out of the fandom I claim for? A prompt a week is almost a year! It'll be embarassing.
- Porny PWPs are not exactly something I need to work on. Plot and dialogue, more like it, not more of what I already do well.
- Both of those claims might have rules issues or other wibbles, and I don't think any other could generate a full 50 smutfics out of my brain as it currently is.
- Nobody seems to comment in the comm.
- FULL LITERARY DANCE CARD, DAMNIT.

...I feel like one of those incredibly poly people trying to decide whether they can handle a new relationship. o.@

Possible problem with claiming Jack: There do seem to be single-character claims on the comm, though it doesn't mention in the rules that they're allowed. But holy fuck do I feel big-headed and selfish claiming Jack fucking Harkness on a smut comm! Particularly when I'm this new to the fandom!

Possible problem with claiming the Shitennou: I would have to check the rules--if claiming a group means nobody outside said group can be involved in said smut, then I wouldn't claim them. If nothing else, I'll want a little Kunzite/Darkury in my life. ;) That aside, I feel like I've sortof been-there-done-that with the multiplication tables. Also v. limited readership.

Possible problem with my journal: What is it with my recent list fetish? o.O

Okay: the comm sounds like fun, but I think that it's fun you're going to get another chance to have somewhere else. There'll be other challenges to cut your teeth on, maybe when you don't have so many other projects that interest you already. And... I mean... you can always make use of the prompts "unofficially," and post some or all of them in your journal without worrying about the community or the deadlines or the rules or monopolizing a character.

Well, there are no deadlines on the comm that I know of--the Sunday-night-every-week would be myself setting a deadline. Because one of the things I could do with this would be to get in the habit of weekly productivity and posting with something relatively easy (like Jack-smut) and with relatively few strings attached (no chance of writing getting bogged down while I plot the climax, after all, as is likely with Five Leaves).

I think I'll wait a week or so and see if the interest is still there, then ask the mods if it's possible to make a nonexclusive claim. It is Jack, after all! ;)

Aha. I see. That seems like a good plan. And if Jack isn't available...

... then you at least have other characters you're interested in. By next week perhaps you'll be in a new place with your other projects, too.

Eh, I think I'm not going to be doing the Shitennou--too much of a been-there-done-that. I mean, I could definitely write more porn with them (how could I resist?), but I've got a lot more uncovered ground with Jack.
