First the family news: I have a niece!! One of my elder brothers finally (he's eighteen years older than me, so finally is warranted, at least as far as my mother is concerned) spawned! And she's an adorable baby (as far as babies go, I think, I'm no judge), and has utterly wonderful parents who *should* be passing on their genes, and...and...

I'm an aunt? WTF?

Well. Now that I'm an auntie, I need an utterly unrelated new filter! Because I know that, just as with my sex life, there are some of you who probably don't believe what I'm up to is particularly respectable and might think I'm pretty nuts for doing it. So, poll time!

[Poll #873450]

For those of you new to my journal, my other filters are the sex filter, for TMI, the emo filter, for whining and angst, and the wintering filter, for an original novel I've been posting (when I'm not blocked; been a while since I worked on it). Any current or former partner is by default on the sex filter, and anyone else can opt in; the others are entirely opt-in.

Some of the above are 'believe' and some are 'tolerate the concept of,' but in no way would your belief of or my lack thereof in any of them affect my opinion of you. Unless you start doing drugs to bring about astral projections, and then I will frown disapprovingly. I heartily approve of exploration of transcendant and/or supernatural matters, and one's own convictions on the topic, religious or otherwise, are certainly no more (or less) ridiculous than my own belief in immaculate conception, bodily resurrection, masive duplication of bread and fish, etc, etc.

...doing drugs to bring about astral projection sounds massively, massively stupid. Altered state of consciousness leading to heightened perception, yes, with certain very specific non-addictive and non-harmful substances (most of which aren't available in the States), but actually trying to leave your body under chemical influence...gyah.

In other words, don't worry. ;)

Tell that to my other astrally projecting friends. PLEASE.

Congratulations! I think I may be jealous. No siblings means a decided lack of other people's kids I can spoil with impunity.

Re the filter, I'm honestly not sure what I believe in, but I do know I'm open to the idea of most things, and I find all the things you list absolutely *fascinating*. I'd love hearing about them.

Awww, thank you!

Any cousins? Friend's children? They can be found... ;)

I certainly hope you find what I post (if I ever have time to post -.-;;) interesting. If nothing else, you might find some story material. ;) Real life is no longer nearly as dull as I thought it was.

Random note: all next week I am at home while Cyn is working nights, so I have pretty much any time from 5 to midnight free. Shall I come over some night with Kenshin?

One older cousin (lives in Israel), one much younger cousin. Friends...now there, we have possibilities. Mwahahaha.

*bounces* I've always wanted to learn more, and it's absolutely wonderful to have a source that's neither academic nor bunnylike. It makes everything sound more real, if that makes any sense.

Yes, please! Just give me a couple hours notice, so I can make sure I have non-stinky clothes and my room has floor.

Since I always knew that I was living in a Neil Gaiman novel, I don't object at all to being on the new filter!

And congratulations on the new niecelet, too.

I forget which of Cyn's friends was joking that she wanted Neil to autograph her boob and then get it tattooed in, because he wrote her life...

*snugs* Thank you! I've not yet particularly learned how to spoil children rotten, but I can at least send her odd stuffed toys when she's big enough. XD

Love the idea of that filter. Those are concepts I feel, innately, that exist and I can feel, but I don't dabble with them as I should. So if you do make a filter for it, I'd enjoy being on it.

On it you are. :)

And if you do wind up choosing to dabble, let me know. I'm learning mostly by instinct and by living with a priestess *considerably* more experience than I (she's currently learning ceremonial magic. I <3 my cleric!), so unfortunately I can't dump books and websites on you, but probably my biggest recommendation would be to try to find a local teacher, probably somebody at your school. It's more fun and safer to learn in person.

I'd love to opt in

You're in!

...so you can discover how little I actually use them. *sigh* I do need to start posting more again, but my schedule is not only sometimes manic but constantly changing, and it's hard to bring myself to spend time on the internet when there's somebody else in the house.

I hope to hell I'm not living in a Neil Gaiman novel. The man has a decidedly nasty imagination. Not as bad as Clive Barker's, I admit, but... yech.

I was thinking less the nasty side of Neil Gaiman and more the 'the librarian sitting next to you on the train is a kitsune living in human form' side of Neil Gaiman.

I know I do not know you like your other LJ friends seem to, but I would love to be one some (if not all) of those filters. Although, I understand if you do not find that appropriate. :)

Awww, hon, in you go. And don't think that you don't know me well enough--heck, most of these people I haven't ever met.

Although we have, I admit, been rather out of touch, because I don't know whether you're still at Bennington. :/ I most likely be making a visit in spring term (when the lilacs are blooming, if I can arrange it), and I *so* need to hang out with you some.

Sexfilter, too, please! And I'll add you to my sex and Weird Pagan Shit filters.

Just wanted to clarify - it's your journal, so you can talk about what you want and I don't really think you need to filter this stuff, perhaps just label it well and cut tag. I'll personally avoid it because my mum tends to blather on about this stuff all the time and after so many years, I find it too aggravating to listen to anymore (considering I don't believe in the majority of this stuff existing in real life...).

Yay for new relatives btw:)
