Ehhh, never recall asking my fiendslist for writing advice before, but...

Okay, so, the full story: [livejournal.com profile] devils_devotion is having a fic contest. You probably all know this, and if you didn't, well, you do now.

And I so want to enter. I think the idea of a gen contest rocks, because there is much good gen to be had in FMA, but the squick category is, ah, tempting. But it's tempting to everybody else too; far as I can tell most people are planning to enter that category. And not only do I like supporting the idea of a gen contest and doing what most people aren't doing, there's more chance of my winning.

^^;;

On the other paw, I've got a Tucker-muse. A chimera!Tucker-muse. Courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] forgottenlover. Who's been seduced on the kitchen floor by an Envy. Courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] empty_geas. Which, ah, gives me more squick-ammunition than I might otherwise have, and the urge is to use it. (Not that I'd be transcribing RP fic; that wouldn't be fair to any of us. But the Tucker headspace you guys got me into? Yeah.)

On the left hind paw, there's the temptation to write squicky gen and enter it in both categories, just to be a showoffy smartass. And if anything could enable squicky gen, it would be the Tucker-muse.

To stop counting paws, here are my possibilities.

1) Write >1,500 trippy angsty geeky Tucker gen and submit it to the obvious category. Easy. Not as interesting.

2) Write >2,500 trippy angsty geeky Tucker gen, hopefully with enough gory details of chimeras, and submit it to both categories. Probably doable,
lets me submit to both 'cause I'm freakish like that, but I don't get to do some of the things I could otherwise do.

3) Like write >2,500 trippy angsty geeky Envy/Tucker manipulative non-con/torture. (Got this idea of Envy visiting him in the lab to, ah, play every once in a while.) Probably doable; could be way fun; could break my brain; don't like abandoning gen.

4) Go for broke and do 10,000 words of the above. @.@ On the other hand, I'm kinda hoping to get a job in the next two weeks. x.x

5) Do either 3 or 4 and assemble some of the non-Envy-related angst ('cause he's got plenty of that too) into a fic for the gen category. Doable, seems somehow like cheating; and the idea of having two versions of the same fic really bugs me when it comes to later reposting.

6) Do either 3 or 4 and write something else entirely for the gen, like Pride, or Roze wangst, or whateverthefuck. I got bunnies. x.x Vaguely doable. Covers all bases, except the possible joys of squick!gen. Still trying to get a job though. And if I'm doing that much, chances of the threesome'o'doom getting finished in the next few weeks = zero.

See? Ran out of paws. Would've had to use ears too.

Suggestions? Preferences? Especially you, Devi, since it's your freakin' contest? HELP I CAN'T MAKE DECISIONS BY MYSELF *FLAILS*

Of course, if this fic does pan out (the RP is bad enough) I'm going to need to research/have a fact checker in possible biological applications of traditional alchemy, human anatomy, animal anatomy, biochemistry, and god knows what else, and that expands writing time liekwhoa. (@#*&$%@(*#&^$*^ded. x.x

*totters off to finish trying to write the first scene of whatever Tuckerfic may develop, because she got bunnied*

...honestly, the first scene probably would or could break 1,500, count as very dark (though not too squicky) gen, and I could just do that as a seperate fic. Still feels like cheating. -.-

#2, I would say.

Because of the idea of squicky gen?

Well, yes, and it also just seems to be the happy medium. And chimera!fic is of great interest to me, so i'm being selfish, too.

*points and laughs*

...however, I will say that the only reason there wasn't a post like this in my journal is because I like my squickies to be a surprise and not give other people ideas.

But trust me, I'm sitting here going:
Envy/Ed? Nah... I mean, I'm good at it, but unless I pull out that then it's going to be same old-same old. And then there's Hohenheim, who's rotting, and I'm sure I can do something with that, but what exactly? And then...
Etc. Etc. Etc.
But I think I have what I want to do, and I'll enjoy it, even if other people don't. Hee.

Ehhhhhh--I suppose giving away my ideas is a risk I'm running. *twitch*

But mostly I'm counting on the fact that I have a functional Tucker-muse. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't touch the squick contest with a ten-meter cattle-prod, because I know I'm up against the likes of you and [livejournal.com profile] velvet_mace.

*sighs*

*pets the Tucker*

...which is funny, 'cause I don't think I am likely to win.
But I am settled now on who and when I want to write, and I know that the style of it has to be a dark, edgy, and a little archaic-- I'm thinking something in between H. G. Well's The Island of Dr. Moreau and Anne Rice's Sleeping Beauty trilogy.
Even if I don't have any chance of winning, I plan on having a blast with this, and that, my friend, makes this fic a potentially terrifying thing.

Ahahahahahha, yes. @.@

*plans on having a very intellectually challenging blast herself, whichever way her Tucker-muse goes*

Care to help me develope a theory of bio-alchemy, or would you prefer not to aid the competition?

I don't mind helping out; I used to be a bio-chem major in college before I switched to writing, so maybe I'll actually be useful.
I'm at least good to bounce ideas off of, if nothing else. Heh. ^_^;;

alsdkfjlasdkfjlaskjdf bio-chem major i love you

(Different kind of keyboard smash, but, ehhh. XD)

If a rambly email comes your way, don't be surprised. ^^;;

I mean, my parents were chemists too, but I can't exactly ask them, now can I? @.@

It was a while back, so I don't know if I'll remember anything too useful, but at least I'm not unknowledgable.

(*grins* I'm one of those people who are so ridiculously well-rounded that if I wasn't me, I'd be intimidated. Biology, chemistry, languages, literary crit, sociology and cultural studies, pyschology, religion, quantumn physics...)

YAY! No, go ahead and email me if you'd like. ^_^

I like the idea of a geeky!Shou to play with. Never really get to see so much of him and his work except the blurps with Nina. ^__^

*hums* I mean there has to be some trial and error right? ^^

Ehehehhe, you weren't there last night, were you? *started to get pretty geeky already, with the inherent knowledge of DNA biochemistry gained through hallucinogens theories she borrowed from Jeremy Narby*

Rawr. Well, personally, I think that whatever you end up chosing to write will be fantabulous. :3; Plus, we Pisces are very undecisive, you know.

Anyways, wanted to let you know that I finished your Pride/Roy drabble (http://www.livejournal.com/users/morningxstorm/3362.html) early, though I cower in shame at presenting to the world... x_@;

I'd say go for two - it's the least time-consuming, and there's no doubt that you could pull it off ^__^

(there's a little voice in the back of my head going 'if she enters for gen I'm screwed!', but still, unbiased advice XD)
