i'm writing a semi-incoherent mythology essay about Circe now. her connections to the underworld are very interesting. many things about mythology are interesting. did you know that in early patriarchal societies, shortly after the transition from matriarchy, part of the inauguration of a new king would be him donning women's robes to take on the spiritual and leadership powers of a woman?
Circe is Greek for 'falcon,' a symbol of death; the name of her isle, Aiaia, is a cry of mourning; she lives among willows and alders, funereal trees; her words guide Odysseus to the underworld. i've always thought of her as having a powerful and ambigous relationship to men.
i like the class i'm writing this for.

Garmarna rocks. they're a Swedish group that takes influences ranging from local folk music to Nine Inch Nails and weaves them togehter really well. i have very strong associations with a lot of their music, particularly one song which is The Official DMV Song. (as in, the dark Myst vignettes were mostly conceived, plotted, and written to it. yay for infinite repeat.) i'll post a link at some point.
they, along with some other amazingly cool artists (Hedningarna, Wimme, Vasen) are on the Northside record label.
i'll post a direct link to the DMV song at some point, probably, along with lyrics. i'm too lazy to right now.

Escaflowne is really good. have i mentioned that recently? a good friend of mine from MystCommunity recently received the copy i lent him (via the USPS). the whole reason he wanted to watch it is that he read my fanfiction. mwahahaha. :-)
wow, that was pointless. anyway, Aitrus5, if you're reading this, hi! and i expect status reports!

there was supposedly a point to this entry. i think i lost it. has anyone seen my point? oh, the Noir soundtrack is pretty darn spiffy too.
*roots about in desk drawer for the point*
*gives up*
