The HP fandom is scary-huge.

Yeah, we all know this.

Somehow the point was driven home, though, when I was reading the fandom newsletters on my fiendslist and came across yet another link to a thematic listing--this time for fics in which Voldemort possesses somebody's body. This to add to thematic lists for, say, breathplay, or fics about the Crouch family, or Harry/Draco fics involving roses, a scene on a rug, a trip to London, extensive use of the word "snog," Ron Weasley with his knickers comically down, and a partridge in a pear tree.

This is not to piss off any of the lovely people I know in this fandom. It's just vaguely disturbing to realize that each of those weirdly specific lists is probably longer than the list of Every Good Fic Ever in such fandoms as Utena or Myst.

Sigh.

Could be worse--you could be the only active writer (or only active person, period, if you want to get technical) in your fandom.

...I go for the underdogs, what can I say? *facepalm*

But yes, therein lies the fun of small fandoms, fortunately or unfortunately, depending on a person's mood. ;)

Read your Myst fan-fiction over at that scary place. It was very good, immersive, plausible. And yet I still maintain I'd rather be stuck on Spire...

...where at least one doesn't stand a good chance of being eaten?

I'd be toast in both places, but I kinda prefer Spire myself. Haven would be lovely, if twenty degrees too hot for my comfort, but there's the whole camoudile issue...

(MC is scary? Well, I suppose it kinda is these days...)

This is exactly the reason I'm thrilled that the fandom is so huge. Something for everyone. In fact, if it were smaller, I might not have found the segments that have kept me engaged!

This is very true. It's just one of those bizarre popularity/envy things--why can't some other just as deserving and complex source materials have such sprawling and enthusiastic fandae?
