Yes, I'm alive.
Dec. 21st, 2003 11:32 amThe end of term took a lot out of me this year. A lot. And there's some stuff I have yet to sort out. *cringes*
But in the meantime, I shall consider the fun stuff:
As some of you might know, I quite wanted to do NaNoWriMo this year, as I both have an idea and need to get off my ass and write original work. However, NaNoWriMo takes place during November, and if I had attempted to do it then, I probably would have not slept for a month *and* failed half my classes. So instead I have transposed it to January. I shall begin on the 15th, and
mattador.
But in the meantime, I'm trying to figure out where I should post it, and who should be on the filter. Do note that I'm not going to post this publicly. I maintain a shred of hope that I might find a complete and worthwhile novel in this bunny, possibly even worth gathering some rejection slips for, and I don't want to publicly post it in the meantime. At this point, I'm leaning strongly towards making another LJ account and posting everything under a filter. I know this means that people who aren't on LJ won't be able to read it; but if any of my friends who aren't on LJ and who are reading this want to read it, drop me a line and I'll plan to email stuff to you or something. But in the meantime, I want to know who to put on the filter so as to not spam people who don't want to read, and whether people will find it significantly more annoying for me to have a seperate NaNo journal, much as I'd love to be that pretentious. So:
[Poll #223377]
Wow, polls make me feel wanky. *faps away*
If you're curious, the novel is a fantasy-meets-reality affair, centered around a small liberal arts college, with a [hopefully] twisty and arcane plot, strong involvement by idiosyncratic characters, and original and bizarre magic. Tentative title is Dagda's Song, although that's still somewhat warring with the first possibility I thought up, The Golden Glasses. It is very much my First Novel, drawing more upon my personal experiences and obsessions than most original stuff I've written over the years. I describe the main character as one part my Mary Sue, except with more angst and dowdiness; one part Jury, from Utena; and one part Thessaly, or Larissa, or whatever, from Sandman. Except that, of course, is overlay; she pretty much popped into my head fully-formed and with no particular ties to any of those except possibly the former, although even there she's more alter ego than MS. (I hope.)
*pants*
Currently rereading RoTK and the bits of TTT that didn't make it into the movie; 'cause I know the end of the trilogy rather less well than I know the beginning, and I'm preparing to see it.
Have slept a lot, thank the gods.
Recieved two of my three presents--the Utena and the Bebop--on Friday. Will have Christmas money from relatives as well; will probably by more anime. *makes happy noises*
And I owe several writers in the Bebop fandom very long emails, yes I do. And at least one Bennington friend a phone call.
Red Bird Roulette has begun to haunt me again. I'm not done with Spike and Vicious; I just don't know where to start with any sort of other story or sequel, or how to set up the last few things I want to say.
My major fandom writing goal, though, is to finish the OLDfic in time to post it on Jan. 20th, the one-year anniversary of starting it. Also to figure out what the squee is up with the fourth chapter of Lexicon, as it is now attempting to split into two chapters, which is throwing off most of my structural plans... *burble*
And I've had the sudden urge to finish off some of my old Evafic. Mainly because of him. *points at icon* Yup, he's the male character who ate my brain in that fandom. (Lon Suder, from Star Trek; Lucifer, from Sandman; Achenar, from Myst; Dilandau, from Escaflowne; Kaworu, from Evangelion; Tom Riddle, from Harry Potter; Spike Spiegel, from Cowboy Bebop. And, I suppose, Egon Spengler and Gambit (or possibly Longshot?), if you look back to my disinherited work from Ghostbusters and X-Men. And Edward from the Anita Blake series, though I never much over there. The only fandom I can't think of one for is Utena, and I've barely written anything in that, just a few shreds of Touga/Miki (with a dash of Akio). Quite an interesting assortment of people, all told. o.O) But there was this Shinji/Kaworu smut I was working on at one point, and I look back at it and it's really rather good and full of awkward and uncertain and intense boylurve, just as a fourteen-year-old angstbomb and a perky gay boy of doooooooom should be. And I had some interesting theories about the world after the Third Impact. But I digress.
*putters off to eat something before she writes an even longer entry*

Date: Dec. 23rd, 2003 07:08 am (UTC)Yes, sleep is wonderful, isn't it? So strange and yet so familiar! And Gambit is responsible for eating your brain... yeah, I can see that.
Oh, the photo of us as the Endless is in my LJ for you to download/print/pass around at your leisure.
