Put the following your journal in the order in which they happened to you:
Get married
Buy a house
Get Pregnant
Have baby #1
Have baby #2
Have baby #3
Have baby #4
Graduate college
Graduate high school
Meet significant other
Meet who you hoped was your significant other but wasn't
Move out of parent's house for good
Start college
Become gainfully employed
Buy a car
Get drunk for the first time
Get a cell phone
Get divorced

Get a cell phone
Graduate high school
Meet who you hoped was your significant other but wasn't (in the sense of first serious LTR)
Meet significant other (she and the above actually roomed together for a while, though this was way before we were dating)
Graduate college
Get drunk for the first time
Become gainfully employed (off and on again)
Buy a car (sortof; according to the paperwork, I bought my mother's car for two dollars, so this barely counts)
Move out of parent's house for good

No marriage, divorce, house, or babies. Would like a house someday. Not sure about the rest.

*looks at last line* Whoa, yup, I'm just that pathetic.

Mind you, there was a nine-year gap between "Move out of parents' house for good" and "Meet significant other".

And there was an eight-year gap between "Have baby #2" and "Get a cell phone".

A typically heteronormative and monogamy-driven meme, isn't it? Also probably originally made by a teenager, I think -- as a teen I was so simplistically-minded! I tried putting them in order, but they're missing important steps like:
- started graduate school
- bailed out of graduate school with a degree, but not the one you meant to get
- broke up with non-forever SO traumatically enough to be a divorce but it wasn't, thank all the gods

I don't feel like posting it to my journal, but mine is very peculiar:

Start college #1
Get drunk for the first time
Get a cell phone
Meet who I hoped was my significant other but wasn't
Buy a car
Move out of parents' house
Graduate high school (GED)
Start college #2
Meet significant other(s)
Graduate college
Start college #3
Get married
Graduate college
Start college #4

We can conclude:
* Gainful employment is a meaningless term in my life at this point given how much debt I'm in, so I'm not counting jobs for anything.
* I collect college degrees like other people collect kids. It's an expensive hobby.

I feel dirty and old from doing this one. I've had a cell phone for eight years, but that was long after college and independence.

I also noticed another quirk of this meme: it assumes one's parents are themselves divorced ("Move out of parent's house for good"). Then again, that could just be crappy grammar.

Yummy, a meme!

Meet who you hoped was your significant other but wasn't
Start college
Get a cell phone
Get drunk for the first time
Move out of your parents house for good
Become gainfully employed (for awhile, anyway...)

you are not pathetic, I am. my list is pathetically short.

Never ascribe to malice what crappy grammar can explain on the Internetz. ;)
