If I had a million dollars which doesn't get you very far these days.

If I were suddenly independently wealthy. As in, had a substantial static fortune and/or regularly incoming money which I didn't have to work for.

- I would quit my job. Yes, I love my job, but my primary issue with working, no matter how awesome the job is, is that I lose massive amounts of time and energy that I could be spending on other things.

- I would buy one (1) Big House. Winchester, Lincoln, somewhere close to the city but wooded and nice, where I'm likely to find a seriously large McMansion-esque house. Near commuter rail would be nice, so it is T-accessible for my non-driving peoples. Nice bit of outside property as well, so one can run around and go weeeeeeeeee.

- I would do the necessary renovations to section off, private and soundproofed, a few rooms as my private apartment. Bathroom, kitchenette, bedroom, some other space. Give myself a nice view.

- I would do the necessary renovations to knock out walls and create a laaarge open room, preferably on the ground floor. Because how many things can you do with a large open room! Dance studio. LARP space. (With costume closets.) Theater space. Etcetera.

- If the basement was not already finished, I would finish it, and provide for ample storage space. And you know I'd paint one room black and accumulate some good dungeon furniture.

- I would indulge in the following items: motorcycle, hot tub, robust house network and server, big television, a spiral staircase somewhere because they're awesome.

- Through my natural spending tendencies, amplified by more money, the house would be well stocked with books, movies, games, nerd toys, beautiful furniture and art from small craftsfolk and artisans, and cats.

- As far as the rest of this huge house, aside from common areas (kitchen, library, etcetera), I would divvy it up into an assortment of apartments similar to mine and let them out at minimal rents (depending upon mutual financial circumstances) to local bipolykinkypagangeeks in search of housing. I would have cleaners through every week or two, so nobody had to worry about that sort of thing. Yes, I'm heading for nerd commune here.

- I would aggressively seek treatment for my hand issues, obtain a piano, and start playing again.

- I would aggressively seek treatment for my depression, so I don't waste all this newfound time moping around.

- As far as the rest of my time, given that I would not be working...well, I'd be able to pursue the 23847293874 things I always want to do at any given time. Traveling. Writing. Studying dance and martial arts and music and theater, history and language and art and computers. Making things; there would be a well-stocked arts and crafts studio for general use. Creating a small book/media/web publishing house for the nerdish and interstitial arts. Etcetera. Perhaps I'd even hire a small strike force of artistic/techical minions for the purpose of keeping up with the rate my brain generates Things To Do.

- As far as the rest of my money: philanthropy, plain and simple. Social and environmental causes, from the global to the local.

So, yeah, basically one half eccentric British gentleman and one half nerd social nexus. I would reserve the right to putter about in tweed with a pipe. :P

It sounds like a paradise.

(It was lovely running into you last night, by the way. I'm sorry I wasn't more sociable. I think by the time you arrived I was starting to go into introvert shock.)
