SO: I have decided that at some point, in yet another contribution to the Slew Of Random Small Themed Gatherings that seem to be going about my social amoeba, I want to have a Shakespeare-reading party. As in, pick a play, distribute parts however is convenient or desired, read away, and let wacky (or gorey) fun ensue. Because Shakespeare is fun, and so should be done in groups. *glassy-eyed grin*

And, as usual when I get an idea for a gathering, polls ensue. Brace yourselves!

[Poll #1126378]

Now, I do of course realize that one could get into endless, endless discussion of WHICH play to do. To this end, because I'm manic, I've decided to make not one but two more polls, one for those who might wish to indicate strong preferences for particular plays, and one for those who wish to indicate strong preferences against the same.

(As a note, if the poll does not yield hugely decisive info, we will probably default to The Winter's Tale, as both me and the girlfriend have Official Favorite Parts (Paulina and Autolycus, respectively), although if that is deprecated, the other backup will probably be Teh Scottish Play, just because it rocks.)

I have attempted to provide some basic relevant info for each play, including length (mini is under 2k lines, short is 2k to 2.5k, middling is 2.5k to 3k, long is 3k to 3.5k, extra-long is 3.5k to 4k, and fucking-huge is 4k, aka Hamlet) and number of sizable parts (done by the rather arbitrary cutoff of longer than a hundred lines, as it's impossible to judge importance and interest of characters in those plays which I have not read; and, no, that is not an MP cost.)

(Also, I know there are some disputed plays on this list. Please no Shakespeare canon wank in my LJ! I was in a completist mood, was working out of a book that listed disputed plays or those considered to have multiple authors, and figured I'd list them so as to not offend some huge secret fan of Edward III or somesuch.)

SPECIAL MANIA POWERS, ACTIVATE!!!

Sadly I never read much Shakespeare (heavily disrupted high school career, never came up in college), but good lord do I love a good read-aloud so I'd certainly be up for it.

OMFG!!! If I don't make it to this reading you HAVE to do this again so I can make it to the reading. OMGOMGOMG! I LOVE Shakespeare readings! I used to do them in middle school as part of my only social group!

This sounds awesome and a lot of fun! Unfortunately my life is too unpredictable to really plan dates for. However, let me know the date you have this (and the naked game night!) and I'll see if I can come! Unfortunately I won't know until the week of whether I'll be able to come though. I hope I can come, I've missed you!

Also, I don't loath any of the plays... yet... wait, there was one that I thought was awful, but I can't remember it.

Also I'm going to Vericon on Saturday!

FYI, Boskone is Feb. 15-17, so that might create a conflict for more people than just me...

Will be out of town post-Boskone, at Boskone, at a party on Feb 2 and a Girl Scout thing Feb. 3, and a Rape Crisis Center thing Fe 10. But otherwise I am totally available. :)

Currently all I have in my direct possession is Romeo and Juliet. I am familiar with Othello and, as is required by anyone who ever even dabbled in theatre, A Midsummer Night's Dream.

The college library is down, but I will make a pilgrimage to the local library when I can.

I should note that from the 15th to the 23rd, I will be out of the country. And I don't really know any of the histories at all, so I may have been a little unfair on them.

If you pick Midsummer, I totally call Puck. If you pick Hamlet, I either want Hamlet or one of the Rosenstern/Guidencrantz parts.

I have strong preferences for those two plays.

With me and the tragedies, I would want license to be allowed to find ways of reading that treats it as anything but such.
