Sep. 9th, 2007 11:07 pmReplaying. Currently in motherfucking chocobo land Mi'ihen.
Why, god, why, is my brain, on this replay, persistently heading in a Tidus/Wakka direction?
Well, I have a few theories. A lot of it is the testosterone-laden yet oddly sweet subplot of Tidus helping Wakka deal with his Blitzball Angst...for some reason, while I entirely ignore real-world sports, I find fictional sports peculiarly compelling, and can kinda get into the heads of the fictional fans of said fictional sports. (See chapter 1 of Lexicon.) So I'm kinda digging the blitzball. (Not actually playing it though.) And some of it is my increasing realization that Wakka's running around semi-shirtless all the time and has really nice shoulders.
...what? I am not, in fact, a lesbian; and while Wakka's hardly my type, I can appreciate the physique.
A lot of it, also, is my constant frustration that, while Tidus is incredibly fucking hot in exactly the way that makes me want to slash him, the most obvious option--Auron/Tidus--squicks me. Because I take Auron/Jecht as canon (well, to get down to it, I take Auron/Jecht/Braska as canon, and I can just see Auron standing there watching the kids flirting and thinking dude, good thing I never spawned, then all three of them would be going at it and everyone would freak out about a summoner having a menage a trois, cause I'd don't think they'd manage to be discreet as us, only, y'know, in a more Auronesque manner), and the whole replacing-your-dead-lover-with-his-son thing wigs me the hell out. Didn't like it in all the Snape/James -> Snape/Harry, don't like it here. I mean, it could be smoking hot, and I can see the seeds of it, but, no, Jecht was Auron's lover, and I can't quite shake that interpretation, and I don't like going there.
(Speaking of taking things as canon, if we're not meant to read Luzzu and Gatta as a couple, then I am a trout. Well, perhaps a trout with slash-tinted glasses. Also, Lulu and Lady Ginnem, yo?)
The other real option is Seymour, which kinda makes me take a step back and go hmmm. The chemistry doesn't feel quite right for a good old-fashioned love-hate extravaganza, because usually in that sort of relationship, you've got two (macho male) characters who have the whole Nemeses In Opposition thing going, each equally obsessed with the other; but Seymour's focus is almost entirely on Yuna, not Tidus, and he doesn't seem like quite the type of villain to think hm, pretty blond thing on the side, must seduce and mess with him...he's just too nihilistic to indulge in random sex for the fun of it, and there's just not room in the plot for him to go mess with Tidus for the sole purpose of messing with Yuna by proxy, because that would turn into another huge mess...
And then there's Kimahri, who I like quite a bit, but also not going there.
And then there's Wakka, with all the rough-and-tumble play and the adopting-the-new-kid friendship, but the power balance of the latter is delightfully skewed by Tidus helping him through the Blitzball Angst; and there's Wakka being all I-am-perfectly-normal-and-straight-thank-you and Tidus being from decadent Zanarkand and all (for I'd imagine Spira is a quite heterocentric, if not necessarily homophobic (that's utterly a judgement call) society, given how fast they have to breed to keep up with Sin); and then there's Wakka kinda hoping in a puppyish Wakka kind of way that maybe this will distract Tidus from Yuna, because this is still fairly early on in the pilgramage; and then there's the whole screwiness that comes from overlapping this take on the relationship with the canon oh-he's-just-wanting-to-replace-Chappu thing, which almost ventures on somewhere I will not go, but could actually be interesting from a messing-with-Wakka perspective, as it's a squinky twist to his character...
Gad, I almost want to write this now. It's like Harry/Ron, only with more religion angst. And I don't even particularly like Harry/Ron. WTF.
Now have image of, after Yuna gets Tidus back in FFBarbie, Lulu dropping by to conspiratorally mutter that she's quite sure their husbands slept together back during the pilgramage, and would like to propose the revenge of constantly hinting that they're making out but never letting either of the boys watch.
I'm very sleepy.

Date: Sep. 11th, 2007 06:54 am (UTC)I've seen some good Wakka/Tidus stuff here and there, and that swat on the butt near the beginning of the game was kinda asking for it anyhow. A pity boyslash doesn't do much for me.
