I think Suzie's debatable, but I absolutely love your take on Abbadon.
It also fits in some ways with the Biblical Abbadon, the Angel of the Abyss and King of Locusts who is one of the bringers of the Apocalypse. (Better than a giant demon, anyway.)
What is the Abyss in the Whoniverse? The Time Vortex. What are the "locusts"? The Reapers who are brought when the boundary between life and death is crossed (let's call 'em the Grim Reapers). The Time Lords, by violating that boundary and extending their lives indefinitely, had safeguards against the Grim Reapers. Earth ... umm ... doesn't.
The pre-Rassilon Time Lord armor with the power of life and death is one of the artifacts that was destroyed in the Time Lord fashion -- the Time Lords executing their criminals by "disintegration" that blasts their remains into the Time Vortex ("The Brain of Morbius," though I only kind of remember that, and "Arc of Infinity").
