Requisite Hey I'm Alive Post.
Jul. 18th, 2006 12:27 amCurrently sitting, at my own computer and everythng (yay! barely used this thing in MONTHS!), in my nice big partially-air-conditioned crawling-with-ants apartment in Somerville, worrying about when my next temp assignment will be.
Things going well, though, really. Aside from the job worries. The move was hellish, though, which leads to the next part of this post:
They will fuck you six ways in the ass and leave you to squirm overnight with an illegally parked barely drivable truck with the back door stuck open and all your worldly possessions open up for stealing. They have no SERVICE. They have no LOVE. They have no SOUL.
Just so you know.
Other than that, have been spending most of my non-private time with
yunatwilight and most of my private time contemplating whether my writer's block is nearly gone and playing FFX. Because, yes, Cyn got me playing console games. Saddle up the pale horse! Or, actually, I've been playing for a while. Enjoying it SO very much. Will probably make a commentary post later, or when done. My hands are shot from moving, though, so I will refrain from babbling, and simply comment that a) Tidus ish PURTY, b) Lulu is my Sister in Boobliness, and I think Shiva is our divinely transcended Auntie in Boobliness, and c) despite the above two comments, yes, I AM taking the game seriously. Also, d) am SO looking forward to reading
auronlu's fic. Well, and e) have already sortof written fic of my own, but I haven't finished yet so it doesn't count, but there was naked Tidus and I had to write it down and NI. And, f) despite being totally totally new to this kind of game, I haven't, as I expected I would, entirely sucked--indeed, only Seymour has really consistently kicked my ass, and I seem to have demonstrated a knack for aeon battles.
[Note for spoilers: I have not yet actually finished, though I have made it through Zanarkand and so have been exposed to the Relevant Revelations.]
This brings us to g, and rather than making horribly salacious comments, I shall desist for the evening.

Never, for the love of all that is holy, use Uhaul!

Date: Jul. 18th, 2006 07:06 am (UTC)Calluna and akycha have a sad filk to Dar William's "I never should've rented that apartment..." song regarding their own U-haul horror. I am sorry you have suffered.
But YAY to your girlfriend for introducing you to FFX.
The story/gameplay is too linear. Luckily, it's GOOD story. Apart from being utterly het. Except not quite, because there are undertones of Auron/Braska/Jecht (or at the least, Auron with a puppy crush on Braska) in the flashbacks.
And yes, every time I see one of your icons, I think of Lulu.

For the record it's in the very southwest corner of Somerville, right off of Fresh Pond/Alewife Brook Parkway.

Date: Jul. 18th, 2006 11:24 am (UTC)I have been a little annoyed at the story linearity at times too--though now that I've got the airship it isn't bad, but that's because it's less story than Stupid FFX Tricks at this point. (And wandering around fighting the monsters from the beginning of the game and boggling at the words "Rikku" and "overkill" being anywhere near each oher.) But, yes, a good story. And while I'm intrigued by the boys in the past--though I haven't found nearly enough spheres yet--I honestly don't mind the het. (Also I find young Auron disconcerting. I don't know why.) Though that's partially because I'm actually quite *fond* of both Tidus and Yuna, and find their relationship interesting. If that did not apply...yeah, I'd get annoyed.

Date: Jul. 18th, 2006 11:25 am (UTC)It really is the edge. If you sit on the back porch for too long you hallucinate meeting Picard's mother.

Date: Jul. 18th, 2006 01:40 pm (UTC)I think that's probably why I didn't enjoy FFX as much as I enjoyed, say, FF9. (Well, that and the HORRIBLE HORRIBLE VOICES. Ahem. I wish these stupid game designers would put volume controls on the voices so one can turn them off without having to mute the TV and lose the music.) Yuna was all right. *shrug* But Tidus, to me, was the World's Most Annoying Goob From Hell. Plus, y'know, he didn't have an entertainingly twitchy tail.
And the het annoys me, just because it's so unrelenting in so many Final Fantasy games. But then, my Kinsey is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay overrrrrrrrr therrrrrrrrrrrrrrre. :}
When you're done with FFX, you two can play Suikoden 5! Ahem. Sorry. Done now.

Yay! Riv and I should actually come visit you some time.
Never, for the love of all that is holy, use Uhaul!
Yuck. How the hell did all that happen? Is there a fuller story forthcoming?
