letterbladeSo Mum left a note saying I was supposed to cook a pilaf to go with chicken tonight, and I gave it some thought, and after about an hour and a half whipped up this giant mess with onions and garlic and dates and muscat raisins and prunes and dried figs and apricots and bing cherries and cardamon and ginger and coriander and black pepper and even a little cayenne pepper and salt and a cinnamon stick and bay leaves and whole cloves and red wine vinegar and vegetable stock and toasted pine nuts and almond slivers...
...oh, yeah, there was rice and water and olive oil under all that too. Somewhere.
Leaden, but fun! No poppy seeds in the house, though, which made me sad, 'cause I was kinda thinking of Purim. More spices than I usually use (have never cooked with pepper before), but that's because I was worried about it getting too sweet with all the fruit, esp. the dates. Nervewracking also, though, because Mum was out of the house and I had no idea what was the serving size or how much water to cook down with for the rice sitting in the jar on the counter. Luckily I got it right.
Oh, yes. Definitely a mad cook moment. My father walked in the door from work to see the tins of Indian spices and dried fruit lying open all over the kitchen and me dancing around over the stove with a spoon to Rachmaninoff's second piano concerto and said, Holy cow!

Sorry for not existing. Have also been a mad knitter. Finished one dice bag, started another. Been doing bits of lace, though not much. V. proud of self in general.
On the other paw, I've stopped even thinking about writing. Wibble.
Planning to make up a character profile for Edrick-the-would-be-D&D-character at some point soon, just to share the dorky love.
