Oh, Maya is god. Maya is incomporable. Maya is the Lamborghini of 3D programs, and trust me, if I were still at school or had any other sort of access to Maya I wouldn't even be considering buying Strata or any other middle-end 3D program.
But, y'see, Strata = seven hundred bucks, and from what I've seen of what it can do, that's really not bad. (It's got a renderer that can look photorealistic, and some neat lighting tricks that Maya was only beginning to implement when I left school, and what looks like the equivalent of object history, and a few particularly neat features that I'm drooling over. Not great for character animation, apparently, but heck, I'm not interested in character animation, I never do it.) Whereas Maya? Seven thousand. Factors of ten.
