No, this isn't the Blogathon announcement. Though that will be coming soon!

I'm offering fic on livelongnmarry, which is a community (not all fandom) raising money to defend California's equal marriage laws. They're working on a bidding system, so I only have to write one fic in the end (which is good for me--means I won't flake out!), which means y'all only have one chance!

How does the blogathon work? When is it?

Ahh, Blogathon. It's a charity-raising event based on the walk-a-thon (or bike-a-thon, or whatever) model. For twenty-four hours, starting on 9 am on Saturday the 26th (that's EST; adjust as appropriate), you post to your blog at least once every half hour. Some people just blog, some people have schticks. I'll be doing approximately the same thing I did last year, which is posting fic scene by scene as I write it, and making random small posts while working as necessary. (That was what generated Thirty-Five Owls.)

In honor of this insanity, people donate money to a charity of your choice.

It should be noted that Blogathon is not being officially run this year. Day of Blogs (http://www.dayofblogs.org/) seems to be stepping in as a backup organizer. I'm blogging with shadesong and a batch of other folks who have been doing this for years, so they're not exactly skipping one. I don't know if they're going through Day of Blogs or another backup (I should ask them!), but they know what they're doing, so I'll just follow them around.

I'd love to do it, though. Blah. I wonder - does it have to be done on the actual day? I don't really think I could do it at all while I was in France. Maybe some other year. *cries*

I'm thinking about offering to knit a lace shawl. It seems like a good cause, and gosh knows I don't have a lot of summer projects (lots of *projects*, but all wool, which is impossible in summer).

I'm not sure whether sign-ups close when bidding starts, which is to say in about five hours, but you might want to check, as it is getting late if that is the case.

Last time I did something like this, it was Fan the Vote, where many people could make requests off your post, and I got overwhelmed and flaked out. :/ Not going to happen this time; it's just one fic, and the person who bought the request is somebody who inspires me immensely. So that'll be fun. :D

I should go cruising for stuff once I get my next paycheck. I'm actually not much into making fic requests of other writers, but some of the other fandomy stuff is tempting, and the crafty stuff even more so...
