GRINDELDORE FOR GOATS - the conclusion!

So here I am, twenty-four hours later, totally unslept and reasonably well-fed, mostly-naked and well-flirted-with, and, most important, bearing a more-or-less complete fic!

About 9,500 total words of fic!

And I feel surprisingly good!

Hello,

I'm here via painless_j's recommendation. And all I can say is that this is amazing. I'm not especially fond of letters, but this one's stolen my heart and I don't want it back.

Besides, I was wondering if you possibly... *cough*... would give me permission to translate this into Spanish? I'd love to share this with my friends :D and some of them, sadly, don't understand a word in English :(

If you agreed with it I would start as soon as possible and would let you know, of course, where I published your work with all the necessary credits :).

I hope I'm not being a pain in the neck for you ^^'. Your 'yes' or your 'no' is very important for me :D

My best wishes,
Lore.

PS: I forgot to say that it'd be for the greater good!

[identity profile] wired-lizard.livejournal.com 2007-11-01 11:50 am (UTC)(link)
Ohmigawd! No, you're not being a pain in the neck, just flattering me enormously. I'd love to give translation permission.

Here's the catch, though - this, er, for all that a lot of people have been reading it, is a completely unedited draft. And editing it - along with adding some new material, as I had to skip some stuff in the '80s in order to be able to finish it within twenty-four hours - is a momentous enough task that I've been, er, putting it off.

Sigh. Lazy writer!

So how about I go finish this thing off as soon as I can, and then you can go do your marvelous thing?

On a practical note, may I have your email address (feel free to screen comment) so that we can communicate more readily? LJ seems to like to eat comment emails sometimes.

Many thanks,
Letterblade

[identity profile] loredi.livejournal.com 2007-11-01 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi again :).

First of all: YAY! Thank you :D

Then, my e-mail address is: regan.slash[@]gmail.com :).

And finally, I understand (or I think so) what you mean. But are you already editing the letters? Are you editing entry per entry or posting (or will be posting) completely new entries?

I could translate letter per letter... for example, if you told me 'letter one is ready' then I'd translate letter one and wait until you finished the next. However, if you feel more comfortable I can start translating when you tell me that everything is exactly as you want it to be :D

Regards ^^

This is stunning, really. The end, it just tears me apart. But, somehow, it is completely right. Thank you for writing this!

[identity profile] the-secret-side.livejournal.com 2007-11-02 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
First AD/GG I've read and it had me up to nearly 4 am. It was beautiful. To develop such strong characters through only letters was just plain impressive. This story has opened up a whole knew pairing for me...know of any recs?
Thanks :)

[identity profile] fairytaleaddict.livejournal.com 2007-11-09 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh god. I got this link from a friend and... wow, it was heartbreakingly good! Thank you for sharing this, it was stunning and so very sad! I love the characterization.

[identity profile] maria-barring.livejournal.com 2007-11-25 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Dear Arkady!

I want to say that your fic is really great!
Would you mind terribly, if I translate it into Russian language and publish it on Fanrus website (www.fanrus.com)? I will state everywhere that I am just a translator and you are the author of the fic. Also, all the additional information (like your email or website) can be published, if you wish.

Thank you for your wonderful work!

Milva

[identity profile] alaceron.livejournal.com 2008-01-10 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
So absolutely, indescribably, wonderful.
You fair broke my heart with that ending.

please, say "yes"!

[identity profile] alvina3.livejournal.com 2008-02-26 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry to be a nag but you never answered my email and it becomes sort of urgent... I'd like to ask your permission to translate "Correspondence" into Russian for the forthcoming "AU vs Canon Games".

Yes, yes, I know, you are not too happy with the fic at the moment and, probably, going to edit it, but I still think it's the most beautiful canon compliant story there is. And it would be a pity to deprive of it the Russian speaking part of the fandom. Besides, it's a pleasure for me (as a translator) to work with your text :) I do promise not to archive it without your permission!

[identity profile] wired-lizard.livejournal.com 2008-02-29 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry I've been so out of touch--currently homeless (long story), amongst other problems, and do not have much time to deal with fandom stuff.

One concern, one request:

The concern is: I don't know what the ettiquette is with this sort of thing, but I had two other people requested permission for a Russian translation, [livejournal.com profile] maria_barring and [livejournal.com profile] aldhissla18. (The translation requests have been on hold--I've done a lot of necessary revision, though I still have a few more sections to fill in the next time I get the time and a friend's computer. But I know the contest is coming up soon, and I'll try to either finish the revision or have a copy I can let you have.) I really don't know whether this is going to be a translator turf war or what, but if you want to contact them and check and so forth, there you are.

(Personally--I don't have an issue with there being multiple translations out there, but I know translation can be a lot of work, and I'd hate to have three people spending their time on the same thing due to not knowing other people are doing it.)

The request: could I have a link to the contest?

When would you need an English copy by? If it's a week or so, I could probably get you the final version--I hope to have it done soon, I just need to find the computer time and focus. I admit that I'm not happy with the idea of having the unfinished version out there more than it already is, but I know you have a deadline and I've been nonexistent and such. :/

Re: please, say "yes"!

[identity profile] alvina3.livejournal.com 2008-02-29 09:09 am (UTC)(link)
You have nothing to be sorry about - you are The Author, after all! LOL

I've written both [livejournal.com profile] maria_barring and [livejournal.com profile] aldhissla18 - no problem there.

The games start 30/03 and my translation is due to 21/04, so if you send the final version in a week, it's fine! As for the link, since the contest hasn't started yet, i could only give you the link to the Astronomy Tower site, if you like, where it will take place eventually: http://hp-fiction.fastbb.ru/. Oh, and my direct email, just in case: alvina3@gmail.com

PS: Oh, and did you by any chance write this one as well?

I bet you did!!! :D

THE LAST POST MADE ME CRY. D:

[identity profile] passakiss.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
God, this is brilliant. And wasn't this written BEFORE it was revealed that Dumbledore was gay?

Brilliant.

Pure genius, especially the last entry...which nearly killed me. Saving this and reccing like crazy. (:

You don't know me and I'm about nine million years late on this, but: I'm not in this fandom in any more than a 'liked the books' kind of way and have never read a Harry Potter slash fic in its entirety in my life, but I stumbled across the version of this fic you have on your website through a Journalfen link and was captivated from the start. You're probably sick of hearing it but this is a brilliant, stunning piece of writing - and the end was utterly heartbreaking, even though I already knew exactly what was coming. Thank you for sharing it.

[identity profile] kahtykat.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. Normally a fic that was posted so long ago would be nothing but something I read, appreciate and don't comment on, since I'm late on the bandwagon.

But I recently found this and read it and I have to say it was too amazing and perfect. The ending had me in tears, just so poignant and sad. This this proof, irrefutable proof, that there exists such a thing as amazing fanfiction (much to the disbelief of my friends). Thank you for writing this. I don't think I've ever read another fic that hit me so hard.

Sorry to disturb you with a comment on something nearing two years old, but I had to express how hard this hit me.

Jesus fucking christ, this is an incredible story. I think it may be the perfect Dumbledore story; I've wanted one for ages, more than I can tell you. I can't even be coherent enough to articulate why this is so amazing. I have to think about it and then post a rec in my journal. I'll link you when it's done.

Excellent work!! ;-D
I loved the letters, you truly were Gellert and Albus,
I really could feel how they felt.
Your Gellert is just like the Gellert I had always imagined him to be.
You did a great job,
thanks for the great story!

Just wanted to let you know that I recced this fic - it's amazing.

[identity profile] elsewhere-kels.livejournal.com 2010-04-22 07:54 am (UTC)(link)
...

I have decided that I MUST podfic this - if I can't get your permission I shall - well, cry and find a way to move on, I suppose, but I'D MUCH RATHER GET YOUR PERMISSION. This is incredible from start to finish and I want for people to be able to take it with them wherever they go. If it's all right with you then I will, of course, link it to you when I am finished!

(edit because I can't type, sorry XD)
