A TMI-ish question...

...for all you ladies with more experience with medicine for grownups than I.

This Friday, I'm having my first check-up/whatever else needs to be done (I hope!) in several years. Long overdue. Scheduling stupidities. But on the list of things that need to be done (along with a tetanus shot, damn it) is a pap smear. But I started bleeding just yesterday, so I'll probably still be on my period by then. What's the ettiquete?

They're likely to ask you when your last menstrual period was. You tell them the truth, 'cause this affects things. If you're still going... they'll reschedule you.

If they by some chance don't ask you, offer the information.

But get the pap smear.

Problem being, I'll be at school starting, oh, about three days after the appointment, and then god only knows what my insurance will do when I graduate.

I suppose I'll be able to get one eventually. Stupid Mum, never bothering to schedule physicals.

Hardly a lady here, but I've heard that you shouldn't go to a PAP smear while on your period. Aside from being messy for the doctor, I think it can give false results or something. Call and reschedule, or at least ask.
